I am searching for a SLK R172 second hand with some specific option and color such as Harman Kardon, AMG kit, Xenon GPS. There aren't that many cars with H/K installed. In order to increase the number of second hand car I can search for.

I thought I could replace speakers + add an amplifier on standard Audio 20. After searching on the forum and google, I couldn't find much or any info at all.

I called my local Hifi - stereo car dealer. I asked him if it was possible. He said if there are no Optical fiber, it shouldn't be a problem. My question here is: Did anyone already replaced the standard speakers and added a power amplifier? May I ask you to post a picture / advice? Is there an output on the Audio20 to add an external amplifier?

The Audio 20 was placed in two versions. One without any optical and one with an optical connection to connect the UMI (media interface). Once its there you can connect more, but since the audio 20 has its own amplifier I doubt adding an external amplifier through a MOST connection and using MB settings will work. According to the options list it looks like Audio 20 doesn't come with a setting to (e.g.) use a DAB.

You can connect it by MOST but it needs buttons (well, screen buttons in the menu that is) on the Audio 20 to enable things if MB has not catered for such an option this will be very hard to implement. I have a H&K amplifier and COMAND, COMAND can be supplied without H&K and so has its own amplifier which is somehow overruled by the H&K amp. But this set was intended this way, Audio 20 was not. Now if you go after market this opens a bunch of other options. Lots of people have added after market equipment to their R171 with Audio 20 or even their own HU (Head Unit). Other than the screen being separate from the audio unit the R172 units work exactly the same as the R171 units.

So if you have an Audio 20 and are willing to connect an after market amp, your chances are good.
