Works perfectly with our Sharp television, range is over 3m (haven't fully tested range, works from the couch so not much incentive to check further!). Worth mentioning that the specific code for our television wasn't there, even after a refresh, but simply selecting another Sharp TV yielded one that worked perfectly. No codes for my Philips DVP 642 DVD player, but then a quick search on the net shows that Philips devices are often problematic as they use Discrete Codes, rather than the more common codes where the same code performs multiple functions depending on context. Will have a look today for some Philips-specfic codes and upload them if they are around.

The codes I got there for my DVD player appear to work, but it will take a little trial and error to sort which are which (the source file only says what a few of them do, and labels others less than helpfully _1, _2, _3 etc) and map them to sensible keys. Apparently if you email Psiloc you can get a 10 day trial license for irRemote, given the current issues around device support (its growing, but still a ways off yet) I'd advise doing that for the present time. The tv is around 7 years old. I can use the number buttons on the phones keypad for entering channels and the D-pad for volume/power/& channels also. I hoped the range to be better because I get about 6-8 feet or so. Somebody on N95 users said something about removing the plastic cover on the IR sensor and it will increase the range. I tried to pry the plastic piece off of my N95-3 with my fingernail but it did not budge and I stopped there. Anyways, I like the idea and much fun can be had messing with friends tv and stuff lol.

Its the plastic cover that cover that's inbetween the 3.5 mil headphone jack and the memory card slot cover. I had to remove that for the app to work. Thing is, once you remove the cover, you can't put it back on unless you glue it back on.Ouch! That's a bit drastic.

I'd be inclined to try the app with the back cover removed to check that it meant a worthwhile improvement first. OR maybe invest in one of these tiny devices instead?
